(Magazine) - As an iconic brand with deep historical roots, the Adidas Logo is easily recognizable all over the world. Adidas has grown from a small local sportswear supplier in rural Germany to one of the world's leading sportswear and footwear suppliers, challenging Nike's industry leadership. Let's take a look at how the Adidas logo has changed over the years with The Lucky Star!
1924 - 1949: Inheriting the family tradition
The first Adidas logo was created by the company’s founders, Adolf “Adi” Dassler and Rudolf “Rudi” Dassler. The logo featured a bird wearing sneakers, symbolizing the challenges athletes face and conquer. The company was originally called Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory).
1949 - 1950: A Whole New Beginning
After Adi split from his brother, he needed a new brand name and logo design; thus, Adidas was born. Rudolf, on the other hand, founded Puma and focused on making soccer shoes. The original Adidas logo included his name. This logo was used for a short time while the company was growing.
1950 - 1971: The logo we see today
The simpler logo includes the widely popular brand name. The logo is simplified by removing the shoe and the term “sportschuhe” and changing the font slightly. There is no deviation from the monochromatic color scheme previously used for this logo.
1967 - Present: Other variations of the logo
The Adidas logo has remained largely unchanged over the years. However, as the company expands and introduces new product lines and brands, it continues to add new logos.
The Wordmark (1967)
The original version of the Adidas logo was introduced in 1967 and is still used today. The new logo is essentially the same as the old logo except for the font being changed and the brand colors being reversed to black and white. This logo is used on all current Adidas stores and advertising posters because of its simplicity and effectiveness.
The Trefoil Logo (1971)
The Adidas logo variations first appeared in 1971. In addition to the brand name, the three stripes have become the brand’s symbol. It is a plant with three intertwined leaves, symbolizing the variety of products available from Adidas. Their trefoil logo can be seen mostly on lifestyle items and casual wear. The trefoil logo has been popularized by celebrities and social media influencers such as Kanye West, Run DMC, Pharrell Williams, etc.
The Mountain Logo (1991)
Many believe that the most popular logo, introduced in 1991, is the three parallel lines that are often found on the Adidas EQT line, Adidas’ sportswear line. The logo is widely recognized as the brand’s signature symbol and can be found on everything from pants, shirts, hats, bags to shoes. Likened to a mountain, Adidas says it represents “the challenge to face and the goal to achieve.”
Circle logo (2002)
Next up is the circular logo. This is one of the newest logos, introduced in 2002. It maintains a clean monochrome style and the classic three-stripe pattern. This logo is only allowed to be used on NEO and collaborations that are mostly streetwear and fashion related.
Horizontal lines logo (2005)
This is the latest Adidas logo. It was introduced in 2005 and is minimalistic with three parallel horizontal stripes and the adidas brand name next to them.
And that is the adidas logo through each stage, which logo do you think is the most beautiful?1
